ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Wilmar Castillo has been immersed in the coffee industry since he was just six years old, accompanying his father and three older brothers as they worked on farms in their hometown of La Libertad, throughout Huehuetenango. Some of Wilmar’s earliest memories revolve around his father's passion and meticulous care for coffee. He credits the lessons learned during those formative years with shaping his current success and is committed to creating a brighter future for his family.
Reflecting on his journey, Wilmar always felt destined to end up in Hoja Blanca. Tales of this small valley, often referred to as a blessed land, inspired him to persuade his family to move there about 14 years ago, a decision he cherishes. Vista Al Bosque (Overlooking the Forest) is nestled along the lush ridges of the valley, adjacent to two of his brothers' lots. Wilmar manages the land alongside his wife and teenage son. The family is an absolute pleasure to work with—Wilmar is quality-focused, affable, and possesses a great sense of humor. And it certainly helps that their coffee consistently impresses each season, featuring deep chocolate notes, vibrant orange and lemon citrus, vanilla, and stone fruits that cool into rich raisins.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
Washed, high-altitude Guatemalan coffees possess a unique quality, delivering a delightful sweetness with caramel notes that make them perfect for daily enjoyment. This coffee is versatile and dynamic, revealing a vanilla-forward profile when lightly roasted and developing rich caramel and sweet hazelnut flavors with deeper roasts. We were particularly taken by its smooth mouthfeel and clean pear notes, prompting us to feature it on our bar as a classic medium roast espresso. The dedication Wilmar has put into growing and processing this coffee is evident, and we believe you'll appreciate it as a balanced daily companion, highlighted by great caramel sweetness, nuttiness, and a hint of pear acidity.
